KATY - REVIEW BY OWUSU ANSAG CASTRO SARPONG - BFAFD28006

Imagine living in your world!!, Katy’s Universe begins at a fun and lively wedding, where Katy, played by Mary Holland, suddenly discovers she might have real superpowers right after drinking a little too much. This unexpected moment changes everything for her, and I was immediately hooked. It shows how one strange event can shift someone’s entire view of life. Watching Katy deal with that change felt exciting, funny, and at times, a little scary. For a moment I thought she had real super powers.

Mary Holland’s performance really stood out. She plays Katy as someone full of fun and energy, but who also starts questioning whom she really is. During her big wedding speech, her expressions shift perfectly from happy to confused and scared. One of the most touching parts is when she calls her ex. Her voice and face show real vulnerability and emotion, which made me, feel very connected to her.

Visually, the film does a great job of showing how Katy feels inside. The camera sometimes spins or floats, just like her emotions. I was surprised by how much the filmmakers were able to do in just one setting it felt like the room itself became part of the story. Long shots during the “powers” scenes made everything feel more real and intense.

Sound was also used in a smart way. There is not much music, which makes us focus on Katy’s voice and the sounds around her. When the sound does rise like when something weird happens, it feels like the universe is reacting to her. The quiet moments were just as powerful as the loud ones.

Overall, Katy’s Universe really surprised me. It mixes humour, sci-fi, and emotion in a short amount of time. It made me think about how sudden changes in life like discovering something new about ourselves can shift how we see everything. The main message I took away is this feeling small in a big world is not always scary. It can actually help us find peace.

I would recommend this film to anyone who likes creative, emotional stories. It is short, meaningful, and reminds us how the ordinary can suddenly become extraordinary. In Katy’s Universe, even a wedding speech can open the door to something bigger.

If I had been the writer, I would have tag-line the story – IMAGINE LIVING IN YOUR OWN WORLD.

Story Breakdown:

In Katy’s Universe, the main character is Katy, a regular woman at a wedding who suddenly gains strange powers. Things around her begin to float, time feels like it bends, and her anxiety rises. Her goal is not to fight a villain, but to understand what is happening to her and what it means.

The antagonist is not a person; it is the feeling of being overwhelmed by life and the universe. Katy’s own fears and doubts are what she is really fighting. The people around her do not seem to notice or help, which makes her feel even more alone.

As her powers grow, food flying, walls shaking, so does her panic. She starts to wonder if she is going crazy, or something real is happening.

The climax happens when Katy finally stops trying to control everything. She lets go and allows herself to just feel the moment. She stops fighting the chaos and instead finds peace in it.

By the end, Katy does not lose her powers and her world does not go back to normal but something inside her changes. She accepts the unknown and becomes okay with not having all the answers. That acceptance is her true victory. It shows that even in a confusing and strange universe, being human, curious, and honest is enough.
